indicator-start-of-spring-process-2016
Step 1: Opened the file - SI-x_US48_1900_2016_80_byyear.xlsx. Step 2: Added new data to columns A (Year) and B(SIx_fleaf_diff_80). For this indicator First Leaf to represent the ‘start of spring’ and is the difference from a long-term climate normal of 1901-2000 were used. Data has to be available for 80 of the 100 years. Step 3: Copied values into data page of SigmaPlot file Step 4: Colored cells in adjacent column blue for Later Spring (above average) and green for Earlier Spring (below average). Step 5: Graph settings were made sure such that the end date of the X Data includes latest date range from data update. Step 6: Double checked that all fonts are “Roboto Light” and that font size and axes labels match with style guide. Step 7: Exported the graph as a png with 600dpi resolution. Step 8: Imported png into Adobe Photoshop (filename: Start of Spring_02.22.17.JPG) and added: • “helpers” for text “Later Spring” and “Earlier Spring”; • Label for “1901-2000” average at baseline • Label on X-axis for last year in dataset (2016 in this example) • Verify symmetry of all graphical elements, i.e. axes titles, legend, graph title Step 9: Uploaded final graphic onto portal: usgcrp.indicators.nemac.org
