This analysis makes use of all available observations, including those that may not have been available in real time. In addition, NHC\r\nconducts ongoing reviews of any retrospective tropical cyclone analyses brought to its attention, and on a regular basis updates the historical record to reflect\r\nchanges introduced via the Best Track Change Committee (Landsea et al. 2004a, 2004b, 2008, 2012, Hagen et al. 2012,). NHC has traditionally disseminated the\r\ntropical cyclone historical database in a format known as HURDAT (short for HURricane DATabase – Jarvinen et al. 1984). This report updates the original\r\nHURDAT documentation to reflect significant changes since 2012 to both the format and content for the tropical cyclones and subtropical cyclones of the Atlantic\r\nbasin (i.e., North Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, and Caribbean Sea).\r\nThe original HURDAT format substantially limited the type of best track information that could be conveyed. The format of this new version - HURDAT2\r\n(HURricane DATa 2nd generation) - is based upon the “best tracks” available from the b-decks in the Automated Tropical Cyclone Forecast (ATCF – Sampson and\r\nSchrader 2000) system database and is described below. Reasons for the revised version include: 1) inclusion of non-synoptic (other than 00, 06, 12, and 18Z) best\r\ntrack times (mainly to indicate landfalls and intensity maxima); 2) inclusion of non-developing tropical depressions; and 3) inclusion of best track wind radii."^^xsd:string; ## Dates of dataset release and access ## Spatial and temporal information: dcterms:spatial [ a dcterms:Location, gcis:SpatialExtent; ] ; dcterms:temporal [ a dcterms:PeriodOfTime, gcis:TemporalExtent; ] ; ## Attributes and keywords ## Instrument Instances a gcis:Dataset . <https://data.globalchange.gov/dataset/noaa-aoml-hurdat> cito:isCitedBy <https://data.globalchange.gov/report/climate-science-special-report>; biro:isReferencedBy <https://data.globalchange.gov/reference/04bb09ac-af30-4010-b502-d6dbe9f5e140>. <https://data.globalchange.gov/dataset/noaa-aoml-hurdat> cito:isCitedBy <https://data.globalchange.gov/report/climate-science-special-report/chapter/extreme-storms>; biro:isReferencedBy <https://data.globalchange.gov/reference/04bb09ac-af30-4010-b502-d6dbe9f5e140>. ## This entity was produced by an organization: <https://data.globalchange.gov/dataset/noaa-aoml-hurdat> prov:qualifiedAttribution [ a prov:Attribution; prov:agent <https://data.globalchange.gov/organization/national-hurricane-center>; prov:hadRole <https://data.globalchange.gov/role_type/publisher>; ] .
