The observed number of extreme precipitation events (annual number of events with 3 or more inches) for 1900–2018, averaged over 5-year periods (bars; last bar represents 4-year average). Filled circles connected by black line segments show annual values. These values are averages from 20 long-term reporting stations. Generally, the annual number of extreme precipitation events has been near to above the long-term average since the 1990s. The dark horizontal line is the long-term average of 1.5 days per year.
